Over a hundred doctors and health workers from around Australia visited the Innovation Centre Sunshine Coast for the first ever medical cannabis symposium. The information session, hosted by IC member Medifarm, focused on educating the medical profession about the benefits of the treatment which will begin production right here on the Sunshine Coast by the end of the year.

There is a strong push for doctors to start prescribing patients, but first the doctors must be educated about the medicine’s uses. Cannabis has been legal to prescribe in Queensland for the past 18 months, but many doctors are not aware of what conditions the product can be used to treat. Medicinal cannabis can be used to treat chronic pain, epilepsy, chemotherapy induced nausea and aid in palliative care among many others.
