Event Navigation

Light up the room for up to $5m in funding! APPLY NOW

Pitch your idea to seasoned investors at one of the largest pitch competitions in Queensland for your chance to land investment capital between $100k to $5M to grow your business!

Get Selected by Getting Your Entry In

A video selection process to pitch is open now for just seven lucky entrepreneurs. Only the best quality pitches received will be chosen to present on the day. Your pitch journey starts NOW with the destination being pitching to win!  Hit the Apply Now button below and submit your application by 18 May 2017  (the submitted video should be at least 2 minutes and no longer than 7 minutes in dynamic duration).

Finalists get to join Mark Sowerby for lunch and then pitch to approximately 100 high net work local individuals, 10 angel/VC fund representatives, a judging panel and invited guests (total audience of up to 150 people)

This competition has been running since 2012 and has helped secure millions of dollars for local entrepreneurs seeking early stage seed funding.  Just like Shark Tank and Dragon’s Den, this event is all about the “pitch for investment” and is appropriate for advanced entrepreneurial startups and established businesses in the market for angel, private equity or venture capital investment.

What if I’ve been selected as a finalist?’

If your video submission is selected as a finalist to pitch, you will present a seven minute (no longer) pitch to the judges and audience. Be sure your pitch covers these areas:

  • Introduction of you and your business
  • the problem your business solves
  • your ideal customer
  • A value proposition focussing on why an investor should invest in your team
  • A call to action including how much funding you are seeking and how the funding will be deployed.

*The seven finalists will also be invited to an exclusive Startup Investment Lunch with presentations by Mark Sowerby and representatives from BDO, ICSC, RDA prior to the pitch event (from 12-2pm: Invest in the future – Sunshine Coast Start Ups).

Frequently Asked Questions

AM I GUARANTEED TO PITCH?

No – only those selected from the short listing application process will pitch on 31 May. There are just SEVEN places available. The order in which you get to pitch is determined by the event organisers and not negotiable.

WHO WILL I BE PITCHING FOR?

You will be pitching to approximately 80 high net worth individuals, 10 angel/VC fund representatives, a judging panel and invited guests (total audience of up to 150).

HOW LONG WILL I HAVE TO PITCH?

You will have a minimum of five (5) minutes and a maximum of seven (7) minutes for the pitch. We will be letting participants know close to the end of their time and when time’s up.

HOW WILL THE WINNERS BE CHOSEN?

The top three performers will be chosen by the highly experienced judges and announced to all in attendance. All pitch participants will have the opportunity to connect with and network with those in attendance.

CAN I MEET AND NETWORK WITH THE JUDGES?

Most definitely! Our judges are more than happy to have a chat with entrepreneurs pitching at the event. Just be respectful of their time and of others who may want to talk to them too.

IF I AM A FINALIST – WHAT CONTENT CAN I USE IN MY PITCH?

We encourage you to be innovative in your pitch – have sample products or an MVP, include your partner, team members, persona customer – whatever is relevant and helps your nail the pitch.  If you plan to incorporate some video content we recommend that no more than 2 minutes of content be utilised as part of your pitch.

HOW MANY TEAM MEMBERS CAN BE ON STAGE DURING THE PITCH?

You may have a maximum of 3 team members (or helpers) on stage but we recommend nominating just one main speaker to represent your business.

Finalists will be eligible to win

over $20,000 in prizes and 5K Cash!

“The pitch competition was an excellent opportunity to refine our message and present a succinct overview of our business to highly sophisticated investors. The feedback and the publicity we received from the competition was valuable for the $3.7 million capital that we closed earlier this year.”
